Our Public Works division maintains public facilities for the City of Stanton. These facilities include Roadways, Traffic Signals, Medians, Parks, Sewers, and City Building/Facilities. Services are provided using a combination of in-house personnel and private vendors. Some of the programs are as follows:
Building & Facilities Maintenance
The Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining clean, safe, and attractive government facilities in a cost effective manner for Stanton’s citizens, visitors, and the City Staff. The Public Facilities Division provides support services to the City's maintenance functions for City facilities including administrative and clerical services and a safe, functional facility from which to operate. Many of the maintenance activities include janitorial, landscape maintenance (at the City buildings), heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) maintenance, lighting fixtures, pest control, plumbing, electrical, the maintenance of the electronic message sign in front of City Hall, and maintenance of the security and fire alarms.
Park & Landscape Maintenance
Although the majority of landscape maintenance occurs within the City's network of Parks, all city medians, parkways, and buildings/facilities also are maintained. Some of the City's parks include: Stanton Central Park, Zuniga Park, Premier Park, Stanton Park, Hollenbeck Park and Dotson Park. Activities include routine trimming & grooming of landscaping, weed control (manual and chemical), maintenance of the irrigation and electrical systems, repair of playground equipment, standard routine landscaping (eg. thatching, seeding), fertilizing, and disposal of refuse.
Street & Sidewalk Maintenance
Street maintenance insures the flow of traffic operates as designed. It is the largest maintenance area covered by public works. Maintenance programs include: the pavement surface of the City's roads, the sidewalks, the network of traffic signals, sweeping of the streets, and street signs.

Storm Drain Maintenance
The City utilized both in-house personnel and contractual services to maintain the City's storm drain facilities. Activities include minor maintenance of the storm drains, curbs and gutters, catch basis, and other drainage structures. The city is continuously augmenting water quality devices within the system, these devices are cleaned and maintained regularly. All storm drain maintenance activities comply with requirements of the City's National Pollutant Discharge Elimination (NPDES) Program.
Sanitary Sewers are cleaned regularly, and their condition is continuously monitored. This is crucial to prevent failures and backups. Maintenance activities performed comply with the City's National Pollutant Discharge Elimination (NPDES) program, and all environmental regulatory agency requirements.
The City is responsible for maintaining to public sewer main line in the street. Per the City's Municipal Code Section 13.04.030, the private homeowner is responsible for the maintenance of the private building lateral, as shown in the image below.
Public Works crews are responsible for the elimination of graffiti from walls and buildings within the city. Abatement techniques include cleaning when possible, and painting over graffiti when not possible. Graffiti is only abated by city crews on City Property. In addition to maintenance services Public Works crews provide emergency response in case of Natural Disaster or a Hazardous Material Incident.
