Background:
In July, Golden State Water Company filed an application with the California Public Utilities Commission (PUC) to increase revenues by 10.2% in 2013, 2.5% in 2014 and 3.2% in 2015. If approved by the California Public Utilities Commission, water rates for residential customers would increase on average $11.59 per month, excluding any applicable temporary credits or surcharges, beginning in 2013. This application to increase revenues comes on the heels of a request that Golden State Water Company made in 2008 to increase water rates by 32.6%. The California Public Utilities Commission eventually approved a 28.7% rate hike that went into effect in 2010. The latest proposed increase in water rates is currently under review by the California Public Utilities Commission and will be decided upon sometime in 2012.

In August of this year, the City of Stanton penned a letter to the PUC opposing the rate increases.  Click here to view the letter.
