Stanton Is a Proud Recipient of the CMRTA Lighthouse Award of Excellence

Nov 17 2016

Stanton, Calif. November 17, 2016 – The City of Stanton is proud to be the recipient of the 2016 California Municipal Revenue and Tax Association (CMRTA) Lighthouse Award of Excellence. The City was presented with the prestigious award at this year’s CMRTA Conference for the creation and implementation of the Business License Specialist position.

The City’s Business License Specialist has contributed to Stanton’s efforts to develop its business license program, perform business inspection services, strengthen partnerships with local, State and Federal agencies and build relationships with the business community and residents.

Business License Specialist Connor Duckworth accepted the special award in the presence of representatives from other California cities, counties, and state municipalities. The CMRTA Lighthouse Award of Excellence was presented to only one municipality in the State of California, making it one of most prestigious awards any City could attain.

During the CMRTA Conference, Connor Duckworth also received his Certified Revenue Officer (CRO) certification. CRO certification requires a minimum of 4,000 hours in the areas of business licenses, audits, revenue collections and field enforcements as well as 30 hours of educational training through seminars or workshops, and the completion of a standardized test and written essay. Currently there are approximately only 30 active certified revenue officers in California, and Stanton’s Connor Duckworth is now one of them.

The City of Stanton is proud to be the recipient of the 2016 CMRTA Lighthouse Award of Excellence and will continue to work diligently for the benefit of its residents and business community. The City would also like to congratulate Business License Specialist Connor Duckworth for achieving his CRO certification and his efforts to pursue professional development.

“I was honored to receive the CMRTA Lighthouse Award of Excellence on the City’s behalf. As a representative of a small City there’s an extreme sense of pride in attaining such a prestigious award out of so many cities in the State. I could not have accomplished this alone. Stanton staff works together as a team and I’m proud to be a part of the City of Stanton,” commented Connor Duckworth, Business License Specialist.

“Bringing in a City employee to manage the business license program has been a huge success. Instead of dealing with a contractor from out of town, City businesses now get a personalized touch from someone knowledgeable who cares about their success,” commented Stephen Parker, City of Stanton Administrative Services Director.
