Council Member David J Shawver Selected as City Mayor

On Tuesday, December 12, 2017, the Stanton City Council unanimously elected Council Member David J. Shawver to serve as City Mayor for the 2018 calendar year. Council Member Rigoberto A. Ramirez was unanimously selected to serve as Mayor Pro Tem.

“It is an honor to serve the City of Stanton as Mayor this year.  Stanton has many long awaited development projects finally breaking ground in 2018 and I am pleased to lead the City forward through this exciting time of growth and prosperity. My colleagues and I will continue our focus on public safety, transparency and economic development to create new jobs and opportunities for both our residents and local businesses,” said Mayor David Shawver.

The City of Stanton staff and City Council would like to thank outgoing Mayor Carol Warren for her leadership in 2017. The City congratulates Warren on a successful term as mayor and looks forward to her continued service as Council Member during the remainder of her four-year term.

Mr.  Shawver has lived in Stanton for over 40 years, and is married to his wife, Jennifer. The couple has three sons, two daughters, and six grandchildren. Mr. Shawver got his Bachelor’s and then his Masters degree in Physical Education with minors in Education and Geology from the University of the Pacific. He also has his teaching credential and has taught in the Long Beach Unified School District and at Long Beach City College.
